Baptist Bible Translators It is very possible to speak a new language without a distracting accent. An accent occurs when we speak a new language using the sounds of our mother tongue. The Spanish t, for example, is different from our English t in two significant ways. The key is to recognize the sound differences in the new language and begin speaking them exactly like the native speakers from day one.

Advanced Missionary Training begins with Articulatory Phonetics, a linguistic course with extensive instruction and practice in identifying and reproducing all these sounds of human speech.

The purpose of BBTI is to fill a need that exists in the preparation of Baptist missionaries for the foreign field. There are many good Bible colleges and institutes that can aid the churches in teaching and preparing people for the ministry in general. However, we see the missionary as a specialist in need of specialized training and linguistic skills that he cannot get in a traditional Baptist college or institute. Our goal is to prepare the missionary to plant strong, indigenous Baptist churches in any part of the world, whether in the jungle or the city.
The idea for a Baptist missionary training school was born as a result of an initial missionary trip into the Tlapaneco Indian area of Guerrero, Mexico, made by Missionary George Anderson and Pastor Paul Henderson. When Brother Anderson tried to live among the Indians and teach them, he discovered that their understanding of Spanish was very limited.
BBTI offers a nine-month training program, starting in August and continuing until the following May. It is our desire that you would benefit from the same missionary training that we have found to be effective in our ministries. It would save you many heartaches and make your missionary career much more fruitful and enjoyable.
If you are concerned about the Great Commission of our Lord, then I believe you will appreciate our Advanced Missionary Training for Baptist missionaries. The missionary has a difficult language and culture learning assignment. Failure is not an option. Our intensive, nine-month program is designed to prepare the missionary for success.

It's a great place for fellowship. And it's out in the country.

We highly recommend BBTI to all missionaries! This 9 month training program is very helpful and challenging. We attended in 2014/15 and are so excited to implement the things we learned there in Gabon, Africa! The majority of the staff are veteran missionaries and are very knowledgeable. At BBTI, you will receive practical, hands on training in Linguistics, Cultural Anthropology, and Bible Translation.

Your time there will also be very beneficial to your spiritual growth, as you learn to trust God more and to work with other people. Missionaries, please pray and consider attending BBTI as part of your preparation for the field.

MY young family trained at BBTI in 2000-2001. We have been serving in Tanzania Africa now since 2004 and I Still think of things I learned while I Was there as I visit villages and encounter many different tribal languages, drink milk from a split gourd in a thatched roof hut in the harsh sub-Saharan bush land. Back then I thought about how long the course was.now I wish they were longer. If you are thinking of attending.stop thinking about it and do it. Think about the whole of your carrier and not just the immediate.

I attended BBTI during the school year of 2014-2015 as a single young lady. I loved every minute of it. You learn so much while you are there. Not only do you experience language training, but you learn practical deputation principles and church planting skills. It is KJV only, a Godly dress code is expected, and the staff are some of the best spiritual counselors you can find.

Each staff member has experience on the field and they love to share what they have learned. If you choose to attend BBTI please DO NOT expect a 5 star hotel treatment. This is about missionary training and believe me, it's not always pretty. You will find that things may not be to your liking or what you are used to. But remember, you're not going to the field for yourself.

You're going to reach a lost and dieing people who need the Lord. Although BBTI may not have the best of the best, they are loving and kind. Everyday they serve those who come through and they strive to show as much hospitality as possible. God is blessing BBTI and I am happy to say that I will be returning. I am now married and expecting my first baby and my husband has surrendered to be a missionary to the Navajo Indians. My husband will be attending the school for training. I'm so happy to be going again and I hope that every missionary would consider attending BBTI.

Bro. Paul Henderson baptized me. (Amen & Amen) Bro. Jamie Reed, Bro. Chuck Turner, Bro. Rex Cobb: these men were my childhood heroes. BBTI was my home as a child, I lived in two different houses there. My dad delivered my baby brother in one of those houses. Sandy and Allen Little were my playmates as were Donna and Craig Hollars. My love of language and humble lifestyle choices were nurtured here. I married Dr. Don Gonce's son after they served in Brazil as missionaries. BBTI is sacred ground to me.

An amazing school. It changed my life, and my views on missions and God. Not only was the practical training more necessary and helpful than I could have ever imagined, but there was so much more spiritual growth than I could have thought as well. Cultural Anthropology didn't just teach me about cultures. It forced me to think and know what the bare Gospel truly is and how it can be given clearly from culture to culture.

Bible Translation class taught me things about God's word that I had been too ignorant or afraid to consider. The close fellowship with other missionaries for 9 months gave me wisdom, knowledge, and sweet memories. And now I also have prayerful, helpful friends scattered all around the world in their places of ministry. I advise every missionary to come here. But the least one can do is pray for the staff here as they do a profound work in the lives of the students.

BBTI is one of those rare schools which give practical, hands on training for the mission field. From culture to linguistics to translation, this school has an excellent compact training course for missionaries. We attended in the '13-'14 school year and learned so much. A must attend school for those serious serving long term on the mission field.

Love the people that come through this school. In my humble opinion, they are the last "super heros" on the planet. They work so hard to be a shining example of how a conservative Christian should live. They learn skills here from an awesome staff that help them take The Word of Christ to foreign fields and save people. I believe The Lord is well pleased with the efforts of the student and staff that come through this advanced missionary training school.
