Who We Serve: From toddlers to older adults who are Deaf, DeafBlind or Hard of Hearing, we have services to assist you with living your best life. Get Involved: We offer excellent youth programming, hearing assistive technology, certified interpreters, advocacy, educational workshops, American Sign Language classes, and many volunteer opportunities!

One late night in 1995, a Deaf community leader, Marty Jansen woke up in bed, clutching his chest. He was having a heart attack. His wife Dianne, who is severely hard of hearing, called 911 via a TTY (a telecommunications device for the deaf), but the 911 center kept hanging up on them.

The mission of our Youth programs (Kid Signs & Teen Signs) is to promote independence, a sense of Deaf pride, socialization, American Sign Language exposure, positive adult role models, awareness and education.
Youth Programs

Our Youth Programs are funded through private grants and donations. The goal for our Youth Programs is to provide inclusive and accessible events and activities for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing children and their families and friends. Inclusivity is a big deal for us in all that we do, and our Youth Programs are part of that inclusivity.
Hearing Assistive Technology

The Hearing Assistive Technology program targets individuals who need specialized equipment, consultation and tools for their homes, workplace and daily living. We have an Assistive Technology Center, where you can test different pieces of equipment to see what is well-suited for you. Once you find a piece of equipment (smoke alarms with strobe lights, amplified phones, loop, TV ears, alarm clock, light flashers and more) that satisfies your specific needs, we will order it for you.Please call Denise Stephenson at 616-732-7358 ext 207 or email at finance@deafhhs.org to make an appointment for a consultation and to see equipment.
Education

Our Community Education program offers several services aimed to empower individuals and organizations who want to grow in their inclusion and support of individuals who are Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing. American Sign Language I, II, III and Conversational ASL classes are offered to parents, neighbors, employers, or friends of a Deaf/DeafBlind/Hard of Hearing individuals, and people who are simply interested in learning!
